Mark 1:1-13

John preached a "baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins." Interesting that people were "Confessing thier sins" when they were baptized.

John's Baptism vs. Jesus' Baptism

The Baptism of John

  • Hear
  • Believe [in the one coming] (Acts 19:4)
  • Confess Sins

The Baptism of Jesus

  • Hear
  • Believe
  • Confess Jesus as Lord

Confession is so important to the salvation process (if I can call it a process). Confession is the key point when someone admits they can't make it alone. They are not self-sufficient in and of themselves. They need help. Upon Confession Jesus can offer mercy - not punishing one as they deserve; and grace - giving them what they don't deserve.
