Mark 1:14-20

The first thing that hit me after reading this passage is that John the Baptist ended up in prison. Now I don't know about you, but I haven't heard any preaching that indicated to me if I follow Jesus Christ I may end up in prison, yet this is exactly what happened to John! Wow! And of course at the end of the story his head was cut off.

After that Jesus calls Simon (Peter), Andrew, James, and John to follow him. And the kicker...they agreed! Didn't they see what happened to John! Wow!

Jesus never promised a life of weath, health, or ease. In fact he will begin His 3-year ministry in which He speaks candidly about persecution, rejection, and even death.

What Jesus are you following?

John's Baptism vs. Jesus' Baptism

  • Believe [in the one coming] (Acts 19:4)

They are not self-sufficient in and of themselves. They need help. Upon Confession Jesus can offer mercy - not punishing one as they deserve; and grace - giving them what they don't deserve.
